The Team.
For this project, I worked with three classmates during my Graphic Communications and Print Technology Diploma at SAIT. This was our final large-scale branding project. My role was co-project leader as well as creating assets for print.
Behind The Design
The Kaldis’ Cup logo design was inspired by the history behind the discovery of coffee. Kaldi was a goat herder from Ethiopian Legend. The legend claims that Kaldi discovered coffee beans after noticing how exceptionally energetic his goats were after eating mysterious ‘berries’ from trees. Kaldi brought his discovery to his local monastery where they made a beverage with the newly discovered coffee beans. They shared their discovery with other local monasteries, and so the spread of coffee began.
The goat graphic of the logo connects Kaldis’ Cup to the roots of coffee and reflects the cafe's direct-trade policy. The goat also follows the form of a coffee cup, giving it a very unique style. The logo has a laid-back and hip feel to it, attributed to the pen-and-ink style, as well as the roundness of the text.
The colours of the primary logo are light and dark brown which are very reminiscent of coffee and coffee beans. The alternate colour is green, which is more easily connected to mother nature and the tea aspect of the coffee house. The colours are earthy and feel eco-friendly. The overall vibe is natural and organic.

My Contribution
For this project I contributed to the development of the logo as well as the logo usage guide. We had to create packaging items for our brand as well. I created a box to hold a re-usable mug branded using our colours and logo.
